I went to see War Horse, and as usual, I am going to share my thoughts on this movie with my readers. The movie takes place during World War 1, and the part of Albert is played by Jeremy Irvine. The star went uncredited because the star was a horse whose name in the movie was Joey. Joey came to live with his family because Albert's dad paid too much for Joey at an auction when he, probably partly due to being drunk, got a little over zealous with bidding which almost caused him to lose his farm. However, Joey came through and saved the farm. However, the father still had to sell him to the British Army because he needed the money. Joey ended up in the British Cavalry, and was soon captured by the Germans. Joey was not treated well, and as a result, I did not like this movie very much. It was bad enough that the studio did not give the horse credit probably to keep him from winning an Oscar, but by the time the movie was over, it made me realize that the humans are always dragging animals into their skirmishes. This dog does not approve. Why not just let the horses negotiate a settlement? I'm sure they have more sense than the humans. The humans even refer to common sense as "horse sense" so even they know that horses are smarter than them. It wasn't exactly a "bad movie", but it was depressing. After seeing that movie, if it were up to me, I would have cancelled World War 1. It didn't look like a good era to live through.

Movie, The Beaver: Not Successful at Box Office
A limited release of a recent movie starring Mel Gibson was a bomb. The movie had a limited release, and brought in $104,000. I have not yet had the opportunity to see the movie, but Mel Gibson plays a person who walks around with a beaver puppet on his hand. I just read a blog about the reasons why it probably did not do well, but I think my theory is the correct one. The movie was called The Beaver which means it was either a remake the the classic television series, Leave it to Beaver (which it was not), or the main "character" was a furry little beaver. I know the beavers can be cute, but basically all they do is work, thus the term, "busy as a beaver". They are the engineers of the animal world--always building dams when they could be napping. I think if the movie had been called, The Dog, it would have done much better. We dogs are adorable, and we are much more fun to watch. We know how to play games and have fun. Obviously, the humans love us because you see a lot more humans walking dogs instead of walking beavers. If they insisted on having the movie be about beavers, it could have been vastly improved by making the beaver puppet play Theodore "Beaver" Cleaver. Everyone of the actors could have worn a puppet on their hands, and that would make it possible to have Wally, Eddie Haskell, and the rest of the gang. The next time Hollywood wants to do a puppet movie, I would suggest they remake Mr. Ed because that would be cool having a talking horse puppet who will only talk to the Wilbur puppet.

Head em Up, Move Em Out---RAWHIDE

Mommy and I often watch old television programs which is okay with this dog. However, I am wondering why we have never watched one that sounds intriguing to me: Rawhide. This must have been the best television show of its time. I am wondering why it was ever cancelled. I know I never lose interest in my rawhide bones. The great actor, Clint Eastwood was in it and he even guest starred on an episode of Mr. Ed so you know he was a great actor in his time. You know a horse would not allow him on his show if he wasn't very talented. Because I want to watch the show, I have been busy making signs that say, "let's watch Rawhide". I am hoping that Mommy will get the hint. If not, I will have to take further measures to insure that I get to watch this television show. If she doesn't figure it out, I might even just have to go to Amazon and order it myself. The humans aren't good at taking a dog's suggestions. Now that I think about it, I'll just go get some plastic money out of Mommy's purse and order it for myself. I'm sure she won't mind. I'll just have them send it directly to me, Demon Flash Bandit. Another problem solved by the dog!
