Ancient Egyptian Dog Diary!

I went to a garage sale because everyone knows that is where you go to find antiquities. I found a real treasure because I found a diary written by an ancient Egyptian dog, Gahiji. I am going to share an entry with you now:

Gahiji:
Things are going well today. My human, Habibah is at work today. Habibah is one of the men who builds the pyramids. He should have listened to his mother, and he could have gotten a better job, but he doesn't mind working at the pyramid. I am worried that he will lose his job. He keeps writing graffiti hieroglyphs on the pyramid walls, like "the Pharaoh needs to get a life", and "Where is my mummy?". Yeah, I know his humor is silly, but Habibah is a human so he does not have the class and intelligence of a dog. I just hope the Pharaoh doesn't catch him doing it because I'm fond of eating, and Habibah's job keeps me fed.

I am so fortunate to find such a treasure for my antiquities collection. It is a shame that I can't meet Gahiji in dogson. I bet he was a fun dog to hang out with.

Amenhotep III

Archaeologists (or their dogs) have recently made a big discovery in the city of Luxor. They found a statue of Amenhotep III which is 42 feet tall. I think this explains how the Pharaohs gained power in Egypt. If a 42 feet tall human says to do something, I think most of the shorter people are going to listen to him.
This statue is one of a pair that were on each side of the northern entrance to the grand funerary temple. Amenhotep III is missing his head, but I think that can easily be explained by an encounter with that Mummy that is always running around in the Mummy movies. Even a tall Pharaoh would have problems dealing with a Mummy. Amenhotep III ruled in the 14th century BC and was the grandfather of King Tutankhamen, the boy king. This was at the height of the New Kingdom, but it was still a very long time ago. In my opinion, ancient Egypt was a great kingdom because they valued their dogs. Any humans who love their dogs and treat them well get my paw of approval. I doubt that I would have enjoyed living in Egypt since I am a sled dog, and I'm not fond of hot weather, and Egypt gets a lot of hot weather. However, there were many breeds who were very happy there. I do wonder if there were some really big dogs there since the Pharaoh was 42 feet tall. I am going to assume that they hadn't invented ceiling fans back then or he would have been nervous anytime he entered a room where one was on. Anyway, I am quite sure that the archaeologists' dogs found this statue, and I'm sure the humans, as usual, took the credit for it. However, it is okay since most of us dogs don't get that excited over old statues unless they are made out of dingo bones. By the way, I think the Luxor pyramid is in Las Vegas, Nevada so I hope those archaeologists know where they are. Another interesting thought: you would think that a 42 foot tall statue would be hard to lose.....humans!!!

My Ancient Egyptian Pal, Gahiji

Hello to my readers, and I hope all of you are enjoying a pleasant Sunday which for some reason makes me think of a song performed by the Monkees--Another Pleasant Valley Sunday. I wonder why I would connect the two. I suppose it is another example of my brilliant thinking.

As my readers from Dogster.com are already aware, I have a collection of ancient blogs by early dogs. One of my favorites is Gahiji, an ancient Egyptian dog. I found Gahiji's blog at a garage sale, which is where I find most of my ancient antiquities. Today I will share one of Gahiji's blogs with you.

Gahiji:
It is another super hot day here in ancient Egypt. It is almost time for Habibah, my human to come home from work. Habibah works for the Pharaoh building a Pyramid. He spends much of his time at work and at home complaining about his job. He should have listened to his mother and went to college, but Habibah wasn't exactly the smartest guy to graduate from ancient Egyptian High School. We are best friends, and he likes to spend all the time he can with me, but that isn't always as much as both of us would like. After work, Habibah has been attending union organizing meetings. I hope the union is successful because Habibah could use some job security. Don't get me wrong--Habibah does okay work, but if the Pharaoh should find him writing some of the graffiti on the Pyramids, there is going to be trouble. Yesterday, he wrote: The Mummy Needs to Get a Life---yes he is hilarious, and if you didn't notice, I am being sarcastic. I just know if he gets caught, the Pharaoh will fire him or have him beheaded--whichever is worse. I'm hoping we will go and visit his mother this weekend. He has some laundry for her to do because that is women's work. Men have more important things to do--like the contest down at the local bar to see which of the humans can burp the loudest. Do I smell a trophy for Habibah coming on? I know Habibah might not be the most intelligent guy in the world, but he does have his talents and loud burping is one of them.

I hope all my readers are having a good weekend.
